The Way We Were:

Local News: The 69th milestone in the history of Agr Society No. 1. was passed last week when the Exhibition of 1925 came to a close, with a record of exceptionally fine weather, and the smallest attendance for many years, if the writer’s memory is not greatly at fault. This is not to be wondered at when it is considered that most of the district were in the thickest of their harvest, and had little time— in fact in most cases were not ready — to prepare exhibits, much less attend the Fair itself. Even under these conditions, however, there was an increased number of exhibitors over last year, and many more entries in some classes, while in others there was a decided shrinkage, the exhibit of grain furnishing a notable example. Had the Fair been two weeks later this display would have been increased by ten-fold, and the effect would also have been seen, doubtless, in the showing of roots, and other horticultural products, for which this district has long been noted.

Clarendon-Shawville School Board met on 29th of August, 1925, a full Board being present. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed on motion of Com. Horner. Motion from Com. Hodgins — that this Board engage Miss Nina Barber for elementary work in the Shawville High School at a salary of $70.00 per month for scholastic year, and that Miss Beulah Findlay be engaged for School No. 13 Clarendon, at a salary of $45.00 per month providing this Board can get a permit for her.
