The Way We Were:

Local News: Never were the village streets in a more wretched condition than on fair day, as a result of the heavy rainfall and increased traffic.

Early closing of our village stores terminated last week, and the man who leaves off his shopping til after nightfall is once more happy.

About noon on Saturday and again on Sunday morning, snow fell here but to an extent not worth mentioning in comparison with the 6-inch fall which the citizens of London, Ont. had to flounder through on Saturday.

An American millionaire is reported to be anxious to secure a 1,200 mile game preserve somewhere in the neighbourhood of the Ottawa valley. It is probable he will be directed to the Gatineau region.
On Thursday last week, Mr. N. McCuaig, game warden, charged Theophile Gauthier of Aldfield with shooting deer out of season and had him up before Magistrate Rimer who, on learning the case, imposed a fine of $50.00 and costs or three months in jail.

The government engineers were in Portage last week for the purpose of locating the new inter-provincial bridge for which $20,000 from the federal and $5,000 from the governments of Ontario and Quebec have been secured.

A terrible accident occurred at Lachute Monday night. A Mr. and Mrs. Sauvé and their young child were out driving and in attempting to cross the C.P.R. track, the buggy was struck by the engine and the occupants were instantly killed.

A meeting of the manufacturers of the Dominion was held in Toronto when it was decided to advance the price of plows. The manufacturers state that for the past year they have been turning out these implements at a loss. The reason being it now costs $1.50 more to make a plow than it did a year ago.
