Pontiac Cross-country runners win gold and silver medals: Last Sunday in Thurso, Pontiac’s cross-country teams ran well in their first taste of Quebec competition this year.

In a well-organized meet held in Thurso, our teams had the opportunity to compete against other regions of Western Quebec and learn a little French at the same time.

Thirteen runners from Pontiac High School earned the right to compete in a Quebec championship to be held at Mont Ste. Anne. To quality, a runner had to finish among the top seven in his or her age category at the Thurso meet. Seven of these 13 runners earned a gold or silver medal by placing first or second in their event: Mary Ann Horner, Tim Smart, Mark Clarke, Steve Jodoin, George Horner, Leslie Orr, Phyllis Smart, Wayne Lang, Stuart Fulford, Ben Manwell, Ron Beattie, Julie Fraser and Gerry Lang.
