Dumouchels and Stewarts share all ten trophies at Pontiac County’s annual plowing match Saturday: The weather on Pontiac Plowing Match day wasn’t up to its usual splender, in fact, one might say it was downright miserable but nevertheless forty-four plowmen convened at the farm of Alexander Bertrand on Calumet Island and competed for prizes and trophies.
Ross Stewart’s team was alone in the horse class, probably due to the fact that perennial contestant Bill Hodgins was away getting married on Saturday.
The Farmerettes of Calumet Island provided a hearty meal for all contestants and spectators and a refreshment booth on the grounds also provided extra sustenance to all who braved the weather to participate or spectate at this annual event.
On Monday night at the Calumet Island Parish Hall, the awards were announced and given out and a special presentation was made to Eric Brown who retired this year after having been president of the Pontiac Plowman’s Association for 16 years.
