The Way We Were:

Cops find hunter after 18-hour search: Police found a moose hunter Monday after he had been missing for more than 18 hours in the bush near Hurdman Lake, about 10 km northeast of Nickabeau.

Albert Kirkhan of Aylmer was found about 10 a.m. by five officers from the MRC Pontiac Sureté du Quebec after he was reported missing by his four fellow hunters about 4 p.m. Sunday.

“He didn’t move around too much, which probably helped us find him,” says SQ spokesperson Marc Ippersiel.

Kirkhan, an experienced hunter, managed to get separated from his buddies. He was in good condition when police found him and was dressed suitably for the bush.

Big donation: The Campbell’s Bay involvement Campaign Committee raised $10,000 at its “Christmas in July” fundraiser.

The money will go towards improvements to the town’s water system.

Fundraiser chairman Lawrence Stafford presented the cheque to Mayor Cletus Ferrigan on Oct. 5. Committee members Iris Smith, Peggy Frost, Jessica Frost, Mary Baird, Maureen Belanger, Mabel Flood, Debra-Lee Stafford, Jean Landry, Bill Stewart, Sharon Gravelle, Joe Ranger and Lois Smith were also in attendance.
