Reminder: Our books show a heavy grist of overdue subscriptions, which would help us out wonderfully if we could lay our hands on them just now. If this item should come under the eye of any of the parties who seem to have forgotten that THE EQUITY needs money to carry on, perhaps their consciences will move them to make good the delinquency without delay.
Half Holiday: In compliance with the wishes of the business people in town, Mayor Elliott has declared that Friday afternoon, Oct. 2nd, be observed as a half holiday, in order that citizens generally may have an opportunity of attending the sports at the Exhibition grounds.
Local news: Further details of the fire at John Hughes’, Litchfield, on Monday of last week show that two span of horses were destroyed – one belonging to Roland Elliott and the other to J. G. Elliott, both being engaged with the mill, which was the property of the Litchfield syndicate, and which was also destroyed. The engine, however, escaped. Several pigs were burned. The fire spread so rapidly, with a stiff wind blowing, that it was almost impossible to save anything around the outbuildings. All of the contents of the house, except what was in the cellar, were saved, and also the grain that was threshed. The loss is partly covered by insurance.
