The Way We Were:

Local news: Wm. Lothian’s new house in Bryson is almost ready for occupation. The structure is a credit to Mr. Lothian’s architectural skill and a desirable addition to the numerous fine buildings which already adorn the county town of Pontiac.

Israel Villeneuve, of Fort Coulonge, while deer hunting last week was drowned by the upsetting of his canoe on Crooked Lake about ten miles from Coulonge. Mr. Villeneuve was about 36 years of age and a barber by trade. He leaves a wife and 8 young children to mourn his untimely end.

It has been our custom since the establishment of THE EQUITY to take a week off annually to give our staff a little recreation, or a breathing spell so to speak. We have generally taken the last week of October for this purpose. This year, however, the elections interfered with that arrangement and we decided to postpone our holiday until the strife was over. We shall therefore publish no paper next week.
