Calumet Island Post Office officially opened by the Hon. Bryce Makasey and Tom Lefebvre M.P.: At Calumet Island Monday morning, a gathering of VIP’s from on and off the island inside and outside Pontiac witnessed the official opening of the new post office. The opening was marked by the presence of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in full uniform, a music machine issuing taped Christmas carols, the National Anthem and God Save the Queen.
Federal Cabinet representation was made by the Hon. Bryce Mackasey, Postmaster General who spoke briefly and then cut the bright white satin ribbon at the doorway of the post office.
Calumet Island Mayor Pigeault welcomed those who had braved snow flurries and below freezing temperatures to attend the opening and the special guest speaker was Tom Lefebvre, M.P.
