The Way We Were:

Earle Potvin now a member of Royal College of Surgeons: Dr. Earle G. Potvin of Shawville has successfully completed examinations granting him a Fellowship in the specialty of General Surgery. He is now a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

Earle has also received his Specialist Certificate in General Surgery from the Professional Corporation of Physicians of Quebec.

Police news: Charges ensuing from mischief caused on Hallowe’en night are now being made and thus far several have been recorded.

Randall Bean of Ottawa who is 19 years old was charged with interfering with a police officer in the performance of his duty.

Two juveniles (under 18 years of age) were similarly charged by Constables Dostallier and Chassé. The officer in the Bean case was Constable Tremblay. Also charged on Hallowe’en night in Shawville is Tom Whelan, also 19. This charge is for damaging property.

There are several suspects in the cases of fires at Quyon on that same night and one Quyon man, Joseph Henderson, has been charged with setting a fire in the middle of the street at Norway Bay.

To be charged with assaulting a police officer, also on Hallowe’en night, is John Lee Hodgins, 23 years old, of Shawville.

There could be more LIP projects accepted in Pontiac: Last year’s budget for LIP projects within the riding of Pontiac was for $500,000 and this year it was increased to $716,000, according to Tom Lefebvre, MP, who is still looking for more for his constituents.

Lefebvre states that he has heard from some of his colleagues in the House of Commons that their constituencies have showed little interest in the LIP programs and therefor have not used up their allotted amounts. He is hoping to tap some of these unused budgets to increase the number of projects accepted within Pontiac.

A total of 88 projects have been prepared and have met the necessary criteria but only 32 have been approved thus far because that’s as far as the budget would stretch. However Mr Lefebvre still hopes to get a least two more under the wire before the cut off date.
