It has been remarked: That shipping is brisker at our local station this Fall than for a number of years.
That the roads throughout this district never were worse.
That Stewart Stark is doing a lot of neighborly service in his locality in consequence.
That the Shawville lighting system is highly appreciated these dark, bleak nights.
That the new hall will be a fine asset to the town.
That with the skating rink, curling rink and picture shows, the approaching Winter will be shorn of much of its dreariness.
That the wood-shed will soon need replenishing.
That the Hull–Chapeau Highway would have been of inestimable value had it been completed before the wet weather set in this Fall, and saved many a cuss-word as well.
That the amalgamation of the Shawville and Clarendon School Boards, was the most judicious movement ever undertaken in this district.
That the rural and Otter Lake Mail couriers are earning their salaries these days, and then some.
Local news: The chicken supper at Yarm on Friday evening was well attended, despite the bad roads, and was otherwise very successful. The supper was of such a stimulating nature that four young ladies of town who made the trip to Yarm on foot, accomplished the return journey in record time.
A glare in the north-western sky attracted the attention of some of our citizens about 11 o’clock Friday night. A few of our young men started off in cars to investigate, and discovered that the fire was at Bryson—the dwelling house formerly occupied by Harold Rimer, and at one time the residence of the late William McVeigh. The house was untenanted at the time, and no one resident near by could explain the cause of the fire.
