Local News: A daring burglary was perpetrated at the large general store in Quyon owned by Leo Keon last Tuesday evening.
The first indication of the break-in came at a quarter to one on Wednesday morning when Miss Inez McLean, night operator at the telephone exchange directly across the street from the store, heard the sound of breaking glass.
The fullest extent of the loss has not yet been ascertained but reliable estimates put it at the region of between seven hundred and fifteen hundred dollars.
Severe injuries were sustained by Mayor Clifford Schwartz of Shawville when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with another car driven by Earl Angus of McKee late Thursday night at the junction of Highway eight and the Bristol side road. Reports by Dr. McDowell ascertained by THE EQUITY yesterday afternoon affirmed that the Mayor is recovering rapidly from his injuries which included a compound fracture of the right leg. A number of witnesses were quickly at the scene and it was found necessary to jack up the badly damaged vehicle to release the mayor who had been thrown from his own car and trapped beneath it.
Leslie Vadiness of Chapeau, an employee of Chapeau Electric Power Company, was instantly killed while working there on Wednesday afternoon when he accidentally touched a power wire. Mr. Vadiness was changing a transformer fuse on rural line about five miles from the village when his left elbow came into contact with a live wire. The force of the electrical shock threw him from the platform on which he was standing and he fell ten feet to the ground sustaining a crushed skull.
The unfortunate victim was 49 years of age and is survived by a wife and family of five children.
