Local news: The death of Mr. John Dale, of this village, on Sunday morning last, removes another of the fast disappearing landmarks of this section. Mr. Dale, who was in his 71st year, had been in an enfeebled state of health for some years past, and latterly was unable to leave his home. In early life Mr. Dale took an active part in Municipal matters, and for several terms represented Clarendon at the Co. Council board. After the incorporation of Shawville Mr. Dale had the honor of being its first mayor. The deceased gentleman was a member of the English Church, and a strong Conservative in politics. He was also a member of the Orange Order, under whose auspices his funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon.
Greermount news: While Mr. J. H. Lang was returning home from church last Sunday the horses made a sudden start and the back seat of the buggy gave way. Mr. Wm. Lang and the two children were thrown out but fortunately none were seriously hurt.
Public notice: I hereby give notice to the public, more especially the farming community, that notwithstanding the representations which are being made throughout the country by parties engaged in the same business as myself, to the effect that I am only paying three cents for lambs, that I have as a matter of fact paid three and a quarter for lambs all fall, and that during the past two weeks I have been paying three and a quarter for light and heavy, as I still require some 1500. I declare that the statements and representations made by the above mentioned parties are absolutely incorrect and have no foundation in fact – Signed Harry Crouch
