The large mercantile establishment of A.A. Wright and Co. of Renfrew was destroyed by fire on Friday morning last. Everything in the building comprising of a large stock of fall goods was consumed. Adam Brison, a bus driver, was crushed to death beneath one of the walls of the large structure which collapsed and fell upon him as he was passing out of the yard. The fire is supposed to have been caused by the furnace, igniting the floor of the room above, where several kegs of gunpowder were stored.

Mr. J. Scott, miller in H.S. Dowd’s mill, has removed with his family to Portage du Fort where he has secured employment in the grist mill. Mr. Scott and family will be missed at Quyon were they made many friends.

Some time ago, a syndicate of British and American capitalists acquired some 3,000 square miles of spruce forest in the Gatineau district, and it is now said to be their intention to erect somewhere near Ottawa, the largest pulp and paper works in the world, having a capacity of from 500 to 600 tons a day and giving employment to 1,800 to 2,000 hands.
