The Way We Were:

Local News: Mr. Ed Lawn was re-elected mayor of Campbell’s Bay at the by-election held on Monday.
Mr. J.E.C. Elliott, barrister, dropped in to have a short chat with THE EQUITY while in town. Mr. Elliott informed us that he intends closing his Hull office and making his permanent residence at Campbell’s Bay.

On Tuesday last, the municipal electors of Shawville by a majority of nine votes, approved of the by-law to repeal that in force for a number of years, prohibiting the issuance of license for the sale of liquor within the limits of the corporation. In August 1923, a similar repealing by-law was submitted and defeated on a vote of 115 against to 95 for, or a majority of 20 against.

Winston Churchill’s “first budget”, presented to the British parliament last week, has been the subject of wider comment than any similar pronouncement since the armistice was signed.

The Women’s Institutes of this county held their 13th annual meeting in the Masonic Hall, Shawville. Morning and afternoon sessions were held with Miss S.J. Armstrong, county president presiding. Miss F.M. Jarvis, Superintendent of Q.W.I. was present together with representatives from Fort Coulonge, Elmside, Wyman, Portage du Fort, Bristol, Murrells, Starks Corners, Clarendon, Shawville Girls’ Club, and Beechgrove.
