The Way We Were:

Jack Horner, M.P. guest speaker at Orange Lodge banquet: One of the highlights of the Grand Orange Lodge of Quebec was when over 200 people sat down to a turkey dinner in Shawville.

Roderick Brown, past Grand Master and Orange organizer for Quebec proposed a toast to the Queen and God Save the Queen was sung.

Mayor Orla Young of Shawville and Warden of Pontiac welcomed the gathering not only to Shawville but to the county.

Mr. Henry Horner of Montreal introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Jack Horner, member of parliament for Crowfoot, Alta., whose father is from Shawville.

He was very pleased to be asked to speak at such a great gathering and spoke of inflation, corruption and selfishness which wrecks our society and makes us dissatisfied.

He spoke of Bill 22 and felt it is a great mistake to try to divide Canada.

Channel five power to be increased: Gordon Archibald, president of the Ottawa Valley Television Company, is pleased to announce that the Canadian Radio Television Commission has approved the application to increase the power of channel five from an effective radiated power of 19,900 watts video to 51,800 watts.

This will create a better picture in the entire area served by channel five and should be specially welcome in the outer edges of our coverage area.
