The Way We Were:

Local News: Elmside downed Shawville 7-4 in an exhibition game Friday night at Elmside.

Bill Campbell being the star of the game scored 4 goals for the winners with Bill Pirie getting 2 and Alex Thomas one.

Playing in the Victory Bonspiel in Ottawa in February, a Shawville Ladies rink lost out in the second round against a rink from Buckingham. They defeated an Almonte rink by 11-9 in the opening round on the first day of play. Skipped by Mrs. B. Stark, the players were: Mrs. R. Fairfield, Mrs. A. Tanner and Mrs. Orla Young.

Overheated stovepipes were thought to be the cause of a fire which destroyed the home of Denis Godin one quarter mile south of Fort Coulonge on March 2. Fire broke out when Godin and his wife were at a movie in the town. Neighbours noticed the flames and notified the volunteer fire brigade which, although unable in the twenty below weather, to save the house, kept the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
