The Way We Were:

Local News: The repairs to the Bryson bridge, which have been in hand for some time, are now completed and it is said the structure is in better condition than ever before.

The new flooring is of 4-inch material, which should make a safe and substantial job that will last for years, as the volume of traffic that passed over the bridge last season is not likely to be duplicated for some time to come.

Orval McTiernan, youngest son of Robert mcTiernan of Clarendon, met with a very serious and painful accident last Tuesday through the accidental discharge of a powerful rifle. It seems he was standing with both hands covering the muzzle of the weapon, when the butt of the latter somehow slipped from its position and the rifle went off. The charge tore through the palms of both hands, lacerating them terribly and grazed closely by the boy’s face. Dr. Powles was summoned to attend the injured lad at Mr. Robitaille’s, Murrell’s section and rendered such surgical aid as was possible under the circumstances. The next morning, the unfortunate boy was removed to the hospital in Ottawa for treatment.

The members of the Stark’s Corners Ladies’ Aid entertained their friends on Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Smart. A very pleasant time was spent with music, singing and games. Some comic songs, stories and recitations were also given. Supper was then served to over one hundred guests. About two o’clock, after having sung “God Save the King”, the guests left for their different homes, feeling they had spent an enjoyable evening and thanking Mr. and Mrs. Smart for the kind welcome they had received to their home.
