The Way We Were:

Firefighters needs patent:  A temporary volunteer firefighters association for Danford Lake has been created until the association gets its letters patent. They currently call themselves the Danford Lake Volunteer Firefighters Steering Committee. They have to do a name search and apply for letters patent from the Quebec government before the Danford Lake Volunteer Firefighters Association name can be used officially.

Late last year, Kazabazua Council doubled the firefighting fee from $5,000 to $10,000 for the municipality of Alleyn and Cawood, which left the municipality without the security of a firefighting service. This hike in the fee instigated Alleyn and Cawood Council to work with the Otter Lake Volunteer Firemen’s Association after Kazabazua Council and Alleyn and Cawood Council failed to agree on a firefighting contract.

In February, Alleyn and Cawood council purchased a fire truck from the Otter Lake Volunteer Firemen’s Association and Tony Peck was made fire chief of the Danford Lake volunteer firefighters.

The firefighters are currently meeting once a week, for training sessions. There are currently 24 members of the Danford Lake Volunteer Firefighters Steering Committee. The firefighters are looking for equipment, including new and used helmets and boots, and plan to build a firehall. The site for the firehall is yet to be determined.
