Shawville-Clarendon carnival proves successful: Face painting for kids, broom-ball for adults, euchre for seniors: the Shawville-Clarendon carnival had something for everyone.

The carnival was a joint effort of all community organizations.

“Everybody was involved,” Michael Hodgins, coordinator said.

“We knew the weather was going to play a factor on it,” he said.

The weekend started with road hockey Saturday afternoon.

The boys who spend the winter months on the ice took their skills to the pavement.

A ‘70s theme dance was held Saturday night. Sunday featured a variety of children’s games. Anthony Valin and Brodie Telford were the big winners in the ball toss.

Horse and wagon rides entertained all ages out on the fairgrounds. Lastly, the hungry competitors satisfied the appetites they worked up at the hot dog and bean supper.

Quyon float wins top non-commercial in Ottawa parade: A large crowd at the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in Ottawa Saturday saw the Quyon-Onslow 125th float take home top prize in the non-commercial category.

“We had a blast,” says Audrey Fraser, float decorator and parade partier.

On loan from Goldie Mohr Cartage and driven by Randy Young and Kevin Trudeau, the float was decorated in green and white balloons and shamrocks, with signs promoting the “Old Home Week Celebrations” scheduled to celebrate Quyon’s 125th anniversary July 3-9.

The float featured music and step-dancing performed by Gail Gavan, Virginia Schwartz and many others.
