The Way We Were:

A little of this and that: Orchid of the week . . . To ourselves from Mrs. Pearl M. Hodgins, of Semans, Sask., who writes: “I had thought at one time I would have them discontinue the paper as it was so poor. I think at present it is The Equity it used to be when Cowans had it.”

Can you beat this? . . . “Do you know that I have been a continuous subscriber to The Equity since 1905, that is for 46 years. Am I your oldest continuous subscriber? I hope to be able to subscribe to The Equity for many more years.”

Bon voyage . . . To R. P. Eades who is off on a two-month junket to England and other points. It’s the realization of a dream of 40 years and Mr. Eades goes by boat to England and plans to let his fancy take him to other places.

Four T.B. cases in 2 months: Alarmed by the discovery of four local cases of active tuberculosis, uncovered during the past two months by routine X-ray examination, the board of directors of the Pontiac Community Hospital, in Shawville, and The Equity are sponsoring a voluntary X-ray campaign. The campaign begins Tuesday, March 6, and continues for one month.

The first evidence of T.B. in the four cases was disclosed by X-ray and proven through various medical tests. Without X-ray the T.B. in the lungs of these patients would not have been discovered so rapidly and early discovery helps early recovery.

During the campaign the X-ray department at the Pontiac Community Hospital will be open Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9; Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 5, and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9, for routine chest X-rays. During these periods any person, regardless of age, may be examined. There will be a qualified technician and a nurse in attendance. The charge for this voluntary X-ray has been set at $3, half the regular rate.
