The Way We Were:

Antique Show’s improvements: Moving the 4th annual Ottawa Valley Antique Association’s show to June is credited with an improvement over last year, says president Helen Deslaurier. In the previous three years, the show was held in August.

“There was no conflict with other activities in the area,” she says, adding that last year’s show competed with the Chapeau Fair.

Attendance was up from last year and there were more exhibits and displays.

“Activities were quite interesting. The antique tractor square-dancing filled the bleachers and the tractor pull attendance was good despite the rain,” said Deslaurier.

Ducks race on river at Bryson: The Bryson Lions Club held its first annual duck race Saturday as part of its millennium project.

Event organizers Lions Melanie Ostrom and Robert Lafonte are satisfied with this new venture and admit that much of its success is due to the help of many non-members who were enthusiastic about the project.

The 600 ducks were released onto the Ottawa River upstream from the Bryson Bridge at 4 p.m. and raced about 500 meters.

Rejean Dumouchel’s duck was the first to cross the finish line, bringing home $500.

The race was followed by an old-time dance and lunch at the Lions Hall.
