The Way We Were:

Local News: A party of Americans in two cars with trailers passed through here last Wednesday en route to Devonshire Park.

The Imperial Oil Company, whose storage tanks for this district are located here in Shawville, last week put on a large motor truck to perform the work of distribution through the county.

The lighting of the village, in furtherance of the agreement entered into with the Ottawa River Power Co., some time ago, is now engaging the attention of the company and in a few weeks the current from Bryson is expected to be on tap.

Work on Mr. Proudfoot’s new hotel has so far advanced that a fair idea may now be formed of the class of building it will be when completed. Everybody is of the opinion that the architectural effect will be fine, while the layout of the interior will conduce to both comfort and convenience.

The building, although built in part on the old foundation, will be entirely different from the old hotel, in every respect. The basement has been raised to about 4 feet above the sidewalk, with concrete and the walls are being faced with cement brick which are being manufactured on the ground. The building is to be three storeys high with a modern flat roof.

The crop prospects throughout this district are very encouraging. Seldom has growth been more rapid or luxuriant, than during the month of June.
