Local news: The Pontiac House has been undergoing changes whereby the accommodation has been increased to the extent of four comfortable bedrooms.
Complaints are made by the Academy authorities that the grounds have been trespassed upon, and most of the trees that were planted a few weeks ago have been uprooted and thrown around. The school rooms have also been invaded and some of the equipment damaged, ink spilt around and so on. This is certainly very reprehensible conduct, liable to severe punishment if the offenders are caught, and we are told that evidence is accumulating against some parties which will be likely to make trouble for them.
The Bryson bridge is said to be getting in a dangerous condition again, and something must be done quickly otherwise this structure, which is almost indispensable to the Island people, will have to be condemned. It seems to us here is a work in which the Local Government should interest itself, to the extent of making the necessary expenditure to restore the bridge to a safe condition. It is hardly to be expected that a large and costly structure such as this is, and which is used by the general public a great deal, should be kept in repair by two comparatively poor municipalities, as it involves a rather heavy burden on their resources.
