The Way We Were:

Police news: The only excitement this week worth reporting is the apprehension in Campbell’s Bay of a frustrated would-be thief.

Gordon Gravelle of Ottawa was under surveillance by the Ottawa Police already when he came up to Campbell’s Bay last Saturday night. Through co-operation with the Quebec Police Force he was actually being watched when he entered the Ottawa House Hotel.

He apparently hoped to saw his way up through the floor and remove money from the safe but was discouraged by the hardness of the wood and disturbed by the presence in the hotel of a stag party in full swing. So, empty handed and disappointed, he came out of the hotel at about midnight and walked into the arms of the waiting Quebec Police officers.

The charge will be break and entry with intent to steal.

Another cook book: Some people just never get enough cook books and now collectors have another source. The Radford Guild, making money to celebrate their 75th Anniversary, has compiled a neat cook book, full of good recipes. It is typed out and well reproduced on 64 pages, all put together with cafe curtain rings at the top so it lies flat on the table at any page.

Recipes include bread, main meals, salads, snacks, soups, squares and many other goodies, all contributed by the good cooks of Radford, and any Guild member can sell you one for $2.00. Doris Atkinson is the president.
