The Way We Were:

Local news: Mr. Peter Brownlee is erecting a new residence on a property on the 6th Line, just south of the Corporation limits, and thus the Farrellville suburb grows apace! In a few years it will be the logical thing for Shawville to gather this thriving community within its fold.

The worst thunderstorm of the year passed over this section between two and three o’clock on Friday morning last. The only damage reported occurred in South Onslow, north of Quyon, where two barns belonging to Mr. Harry Bronson, also a cow stable were burnt by lightning. A bull, tied in the stable, was destroyed. Fortunately, Mr. Bronson’s other buildings were some distance away, and thus escaped destruction.

The picnic at the Campbells Bay Agr. Society grounds on Tuesday of last week was held under the most favorable weather conditions a good attendance responded to the invitation to come and participate in the day’s amusements. A baseball match between the local team and a team from Pembroke was won by the visitors by the close score of 5 – 4, which indicates that play on the whole was snappy.
