The Way We Were:

A million dollars for roads in Pontiac County alone: The Minister of Transport of Quebec, Mr. Raymond Mailloux, has announced paving contracts for a total of four million dollars covering 136 miles in West Quebec, one quarter of which are in Pontiac.

The work will include 15.7 miles along Highway 148 and a total of 21.9 miles of paving in the municipalities of Chichester, Allumette Island, Shawville, Calumet Island Clarendon and Thorne.

Retiring teacher honoured: A banquet was held on Saturday evening at Pine Lodge, Bristol, in honour of Miss Myrtle Hodgins who is retiring after 35 years of teaching. One hundred and five guests attended including Myrtle’s brother, Jimmy, her sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Heman Woolsey and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was presented with a plaque from the Western Quebec Teachers Association and an engraved silver tray from the Pontiac Protestant School Board.
