The Way We Were:

Local News: Dr. R.G. Docks was installed as president of Shawville Rotary Club for the coming year at the regular meeting held in the Pontiac House on Friday evening. He takes over the office from Neil Drummond who reviewed the year’s activities in his retiring address.

The sum of over $400 was turned over to the flood victim funds for Winnipeg and Rimouski following a dance held at Bryson. Associated in the successful venture were the Pontiac Lions Club, the municipality of Bryson Mine and Smelters Union No. 880 of New Calumet Mines and Bryson Athletic Association.

Mr. Wesley Nicholson having recently sold his farm to Mr. Preston Hodgins of Shawville, attended the home of Mr. Roland Graham where some 65 friends and neighbours gathered to honour him. His friends wished to express how much they had enjoyed his neighbourly and kindly manner during his lifetime in their midst. The evening was spent in playing progressive euchre, with Mr. Nicholson winning the highest points for the men, and Mrs. Warren Campbell, for the ladies.

The annual school picnic was held at Maryland separate school Friday with some 75 children and adults in attendance. The crowd ranged in ages from five months to eighty years of age. The youngest being little Shirley Anne Armstrong and the oldest Mrs. Andrew Dumas. During the afternoon, various kinds of races under the direction of Mr. Michael Wrinn and Mr. Joe Armstrong were enjoyed by both young and old.
