The Way We Were:

Amalgamation has happened: The Quebec government has passed its amalgamation act which joins Quyon, North Onslow, South Onslow and Eardley to form one municipality called “Pontiac”.

This new municipality is now all within the County of Pontiac, including that part of it which used to be Eardley and was in Gatineau County.

In the Municipality of Pontiac, there will be a municipal election in November. Between now and November, the new municipality of Pontiac will be administered by a provisional board made up of nominees from each of the four councils concerned.

Mr. 1975: At 3:31 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, the first baby of the year was born in Pontiac Community Hospital with the arrival of Neil, 7 pounds, nine ounces, son of Keith and Ellen Derouin of Bryson.

Radio Station CKOB, Renfrew, was first to note the arrival; there having been no issue of THE EQUITY last week, and collected a great array of gifts for the baby, his mother and father, including: flowers, a baby lounge, hair styling for the parents, gift sets, baby powder, a month’s supply of disposable diapers, and many other gifts as well as a Sunday smörgåsbord dinner at the Sunset Motel in Renfrew.

In addition, the lucky couple will receive mounted 8 by 10 photographs of mother and baby as a gift from Studio Andrée Enr. in Campbell’s Bay.
