Local news: The Detroit contingent of Shawville young men, who spent the Christmas holidays in town with their relatives, left Saturday afternoon to return their jobs across the Line, accompanied by Albert Chisnell, Russell Findlay and Leslie Dale. Some 18 or 20 young men from this section are now located in Detroit, mostly in the employ of the Ford company.
Mr. Cyril McDowell and sister, Miss Rexford Wilson, left on Thursday night for Montrose, S. Dakota, having got a message that their mother, Mrs. Robert McDowell, had been overcome with coal gas and was ill from the effects. After they left, however, another message came, stating she was out of danger. Mrs. McDowell went to Dakota last October with her brother, Robert Knox, who will spend the Summer in Shawville.
Off for the Rouge: J. R. Hamilton with 13 teams left on afternoon train Thursday for the Rouge district to engage in hauling supplies to the lumber camps, as in former years. Accompanying him as teamsters were the following men from this section: Vivian Millar, Geo. Cole, Marshall Telford, Lawrence Wilson, Cliff. Corrigan, Geo. Angus, Geo. Smith, Robert Corrigan and Norman Smith.
New Pool Room: J. P. Wilson has opened a pool room in his hall over the garage, with two first class, up-to-date tables.
Curling Club Meeting: The annual meeting of the Shawville Curling Club was held at the rink on Monday evening. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President: J. H. Stewart; V. Pres.: T. Shore; Secty.-Treas.: R. A. Dennis; Chap.: Rev. J. H. Conn.; Ex. Com.: W. E. N. Hodgins, R. G. Hodgins, Dr. K. Neilson; Ice Com.: A. G. Brough, A. D. McCredie, J. L. Hodgins; Match Com.: J. B. Dover, G. F. Wanless, W. A. Hodgins. The skips have been selected and the members have been arranged into teams. Schedules are being printed and will be mailed to each member without delay. Local bonspiel is being arranged to take place during the next few days.
