The Way We Were:

Local news: Saturday was one of the coldest days of the year, the mercury having dropped down to 26 (some say 28) degrees below zero at 7 a. m. This keen freeze, accompanied by a biting wind made the weather decidedly too cold for outdoor enjoyment.

The local physicians report that La Grippe is almost epidemic in the district.

Mr. Jas. Armstrong of Clarendon Front, is still, we regret to say, seriously ill at the Hospital in Ottawa. The latest reports state that his condition is slightly improved.

Queen Victoria is Gone: Queen Victoria died from paralysis at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, at 6:55 on Tuesday afternoon. Reckoned by Canadian time the hour of her decease would be about 1:55. Her Majesty was in an unconscious state for some time previously. All the members of the royal household, excepting the Dowager Empress of Germany, were present when the end came.

Memorial Service: A memorial service in connection with the death of the late Queen will be held in St. Paul’s Church next Sunday morning at 10.30 at which the mayor and council will attend. The church authorities also extend a hearty invitation to all the fraternal societies to attend the service.
