Crowning of Centennial Queen in Otter Lake: Saturday, January 10th, a very special day for the people of Otter Lake when a talent contest was held at St Mary’s School. There were eight girls participating in this contest. They were Pauline Dubeau, Giesle Miljour, Nicole Lafleur, Colette Racine, Donna Zacharias, Lisette Lafleur, Wendy Erfle, and Dale Kluke. All these girls had worked very hard and performed very well.
The panel of judges had a very difficult task on their hands to have to pick only one girl to be Centennial Queen. During the evening there was good music provided by the Brysonaires. There were also many talented youngsters who either step danced or sang. Those who danced were Ronda Lance, Lise Dagenais, Grace Beauchamp, Eldon Ostrom, Ward Schwartz, Kathy Rebertz and Jacqueline Cartier. Eldon Ostrom, Wade Schwartz and Jeff Kearns sang for the many people in the audience. As the evening rolled around, the people were getting anxious to see who was going to become Queen.
Finally, the M.C. Mr Ronald Desabrais said the time had arrived and the names of the three finalist were revealed. They were Nicole Lafleur, Wendy Erfle and Pauline Dubeau. Out of these three, the queen was finally picked. There were shouts and whistles from the crowd as Wendy Erfle was named the Centennial Queen of Otter Lake. The first princess was Pauline Dubeau, second princess was Nicole Lafleur.
The Queen was crowned by the Mayor, Mr Basil Quaile. Flowers, ribbons and gifts were presented to all the other girls by Mrs Grace Quaile. Many beautiful gifts were given to the Queen.
The organizers of this special event were Mrs Erma Rebertz and Mrs Elaine Racine. Responsible for the entertainment was Mr Ronald Desabrais. A wonderful time was had by everyone. We, the people of Otter Lake hope to see many people visit our town in this our Centennial Year.
Bryson Inn leads in Pontiac Broomball League: With 14 wins and only two losses, the Bryson Inn team has 30 points and top position in the Pontiac Broomball League.
Second in the standings in Shawville with 23 points, followed by Clarendon with 10 and a second Bryson Inn team with only one point for a tied game. This information is from Robert Gregory who also has provided the following individual standings.
