The Way We Were:

Bank starts transition with sign change: This weekend the Bank of Montreal in Shawville will begin making the transition to the National Bank with a new banner being placed on the front of the bank. The banking machine will be out of operation, but a portable unit will be available for people to obtain their new banking cards this weekend. No staff changes have been made and business will go on as usual.

“The bank will be keeping the same services and hours,” said Mario Hendley, a representative of the National Bank.

“The only change I can think of is that we want to make the services at the bank more personal,” Hendley said. “Customers will not be a number anymore at this bank.”

The National Bank will be having a wine and cheese open house in March to officially mark the transition and to promote the National Bank.

Murray brothers are back in hockey and more hockey news: It didn’t take long for Shawville’s Terry and brother Bryan Murray to get their feet back into hockey.

Terry Murray is back with Bobby Clark’s and the NHL Philadelphia Flyers as a pro scout and is working out of his home in Maine.

Murray was fired as a coach for the NHL’s Florida Panthers’ club last month and was also the head coach for the Flyers before being fired from there. He then turned to coaching the Panthers after a spell in the American league.

Older brother Bryan, is also back at work, scouting for the NHL’s Florida Panthers. Bryan was the general manager and vice-president for the Panthers and was let go from his post the same time as brother Terry.

Shawville’s Cory Dorzek is back on skates for his Hamilton College Continentals this past week after suffering a pulled tendon in his ankle. Named captain of the team before the season even started, Dorzek has a 2-4-6 record in 16 games and has played four years on the Continentals team since leaving Pembroke of three seasons to pursue a BA in economics. Cory graduates this year and has a position at Bear-Stearns, a Corporate Investment company in New York City.

Shawville’s Luke Murphy has hung up his skates for this season. Murphy suffered a near career threatening injury to his eye and was back on skates for awhile for the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL. He said that he decided to take the rest of the season off to prepare for the 2001-2002 season.
