Local news: Have you had the mumps? If not your chances for getting into the procession are fairly good—especially if you take the risk of paying a sympathetic visit to your afflicted neighbors. In the scheme of nature’s economy, mumps are bound to get you some time, so you might as well submit to the inevitable now, when the malady is popular, as postpone your fate to a later date.

The Kingdon Mines people, through their manager, Mr. A. G. Munich, have acquired the right to develop that portion of the Chats Falls, belonging to this province. This right was disposed of by auction at Quebec on February 18th, the Kingdon Mines offering a yearly rental of $14,800 for the privilege, which offer was accepted. The corporation of Ottawa city was a competitor for these power rights. It is now stated that the Kingdon Mines Co., in co-operation with the Ontario Hydro Electric Commission, plan a full development of the power at Chats Falls, and that preliminary work has already started.

Shawville hockey team came through a two game home and home series with the Quyon team on Wednesday and Friday evenings of last week with a five goal margin over their opponents. In the first fixture at Quyon on Wednesday night, Shawville were defeated in a very closely contested match by 4 to 3. On Friday night Quyon came here and lost out to the tune of 6 to 0, giving the Shawville squad a five-goal margin on the round.
