The Way We Were:

Ice races kick off Bristol Winter Carnival: The roar of car engines and the cheering of fans only added to the beautiful winter’s day on Saturday at Norway Bay.

The annual ice races kicked off the Bristol Winter Carnival’s first weekend.

Organized by Chris Young and Don McCredie, the ice races attracted hundreds of on-lookers.

Carnival activities continue next weekend with an ice fishing derby, dart social, Miss Peach contest, three-on-three hockey games, tug-of-war, euchre tournament and concludes with the famous Bristol Bean Supper on Sunday.

Skiing the cross-country trails at Patro: “Happy trails to you, until we meet again..” most of us will remember the closing song and best wishes of the 50s top television program, Roy Rogers.

Many of the youth using the new ski trails at Patro will never have heard of Roy Rogers or his hit song, but the good wishes expressed in that song are extended by the Patro staff to cross-country skiers.

On Saturday, the 10-km cross-country ski trails were officially opened at the successful Patro Camp. This adds yet another exciting activity for families and youth to participate in at the camp located on the Ottawa River just outside of Fort Coulonge on Chemin de la Passe.

Director Brother Marc Frappier and Assistant Director Stephan DuRocher, along with volunteers officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday.
