The Way We Were:

Local News: The Thistle Curling Club, largest and oldest curling club in Montreal, held its Centenary Bonspiel in Montreal on Feb. 10 and 11. The Shawville Curling Club was invited to enter a rink in this competition.

Through successive wins, the Shawville rink reached the finals for the Rankin Cup and won this on Saturday night by defeating Pointe Claire in a closely fought game by a score of 8-7. The cup was presented to Mr. Alex Horner, president of the Shawville Curling Club.

A successful yearly report was presented at the annual telephone co. shareholders meeting which was held at Hynes Hall.

The February meeting of the Shawville Women’s Institute took the form of a progressive supper on Monday when the members traveled in groups of six to the homes of Mrs. N. Drummond, Mrs. G.G. McDowell and Mrs. Gordon Paul for the different courses, finally arriving at the home of Mrs. C.J. Caldwell for coffee and cake, the assisting hostess being Mrs. H.M. Turner and Mrs. Noseworthy.
