Local news: The Campbell’s Bay hockey club have combined with the Boys’ Club to build an open-air rink for this winter amusement. Pity that some of the local well-to-do citizens, with substantial balances in the banks do not bestir themselves, loosen up their purse-strings and give the town what it needs—a decent covered rink.
The Kingdon Mining Co., whose lead mine is located on the Chats Island not far from Galetta, has recently acquired the galena mines on Calumet Island. This property has passed through several hands since development began there about 40 years ago. Big efforts were put forth to make the mine a going concern, and a lot of money was sunk in development, erection of buildings, etc., but every effort in turn fizzled out, and finally the buildings and plant went up in smoke. It is hoped the Kingdon people, in their initial tests and experiments, will get results sufficient to warrant the re-opening of the mine on an extensive scale.
The Post Office Department announces the issue of a new eight cent postage stamp printed in blue. This is intended for use in covering the letter rate of postage to countries outside of the North American continent, Great Britain and the Empire.
Mr. R. Dagg, of Clarendon Front, dropped in last week to tell THE EQUITY of the phenomenal success he has had during the past six months in raising pigs. Two sows—in four batches—littered 68 pigs—27 in the Spring and 24 this Fall. Out of this number the large percentage of 51 pigs have been raised.
