Nearly 500 Crowd into High School For Second Annual Talent Revue: The walls of Shawville Theatre were bulging last Wednesday night as almost 500 people crowded into the building to see the second annual Talent Revue presented by the students and staff.
At a preview given in the afternoon, 460 students attended the show which ran about three and a half hours. So great was the demand for tickets for the evening performance that those in charge of the revue felt they could have sold 1,000 tickets had they been able to secure a big enough hall.
Chairman of the program was Principal J. A. Tolhurst and Vice-Principal J. C. Gordon was director. Miss R. Evans and Miss F. Sexsmith were dramatic directors with music under the direction of Miss E. Robinson. R. A. Carson was stage manager and James Cameron and Mary McDowell were in charge of art work. The high school orchestra provided the music and special numbers were given by the Girls’ Choral Group, Fay Stickler, the Boys’ Choral Group, Janey McDowell, Helen Imison and the program included a pantomime, an operetta and a one-act play.

Candle Light Service At United Church: A near capacity congregation gathered in the United Church, Sunday night for the annual candle-lighting carol service of the C.G.I.T., with special anthems by the choir. In a very delightful way the girls illustrated the ideals of their group, which are to “Seek truth, cherish health, Love God and serve others,” doing this in the darkened church with the help of candles.
The service was led by the leaders of the group, Mrs. Donald Dods and Mrs. Art Hayes, with the president, Beverley Campbell and secretary Norma Paul and Barbara Smith assisting. Five candle lighters who took part in the pageant were Rosemary Lunam, Joan Pirie, Lenore Alexander, Merle McGregor and Bobbie Dagg. In the Anthems sung, Mrs. Evelyn Little and Glenn Hodgins had solo parts, with Miss Kay Woodley as leader and Mrs. E. Hodgins at the console of the electric organ.
