A coal oil well has been struck on Allumette Island on the farm of Mr. James Gallagher. The oil is so clear as to be ready for use in lamps and it is said the family is using the oil in the house lamps with good results. The water in the old well was so oily that the cattle would not drink it.

The butt log measured 46 inches and the top measured 10 inches and the 6 logs contained three thousand and thirty feet, board measure, or over twelve standards.
