The Way We Were:

Local news: There was a large influx of visitors in town and vicinity on Saturday night, absent ones returning to spend the festive season with their relatives and friends.

Our village trade during the past ten days did not have the bustle and boom about it that is usual at this season of the year in consequence of the absence of snow and the indisposition of people to undertake long drives unless they can do so with comfort, which has certainly not been an accompaniment of travelling for some weeks past.

The welcome snow came in abundance on Sunday to make fairly good sleighing for Christmas day.

The Christmas trees at Elliott’s Hall on Thursday last and at the Methodist Church on Christmas night were both largely attended and at each event a lot of little people were made happy by a lavish distribution of gifts, toys, etc.
