The Way We Were:

Rapides des Joachims grant will employ twenty men: Rapides des Joachims has received good news about their application for an LIP grant. Thirty thousand dollars will be received in that cut-off community at the far corner of Pontiac County to create 20 jobs on a project towards improving recreational facilities. The plan is to build and maintain a community rink for minor hockey and other organized sports, the repair and renovation of the community hall, and the cleaning up of the creek for a quarter of a mile where it runs through the village.

Fire at Litchfield: A fire destroyed Paul Stafford’s house in Litchfield Monday evening around five. This home was at one time owned by L P Hodgins. Working to contain the blaze were the fire departments of Shawville and Campbell’s Bay.

Elmside leads in local Hockey League: On Tuesday evening Finnegan’s defeated Pontiac Electric 5-2. Top scorers were Steve Hodgins with a pair and John Atkinson with one goal and two assists.

On Thursday evening, Canadian Tire with a last minute come back, defeated Elmside 6-5. This come back was due to the brilliant goaltending of Art MacIntyre who kept them in the game.

The first game Sunday was won by Elmside who defeated Pontiac Electric 5-4. The leading scorers were Barry Murray with one goal and assist for the winners while Garry Russell had one goal and two assists for the losers.

The second game of the afternoon saw Canadian Tire defeat Finnegan’s 6-2. Laird Murray had a pair of goals for the winners.

The leading scorers are Garry Russell 30, Barry Murray 22, Ronnie Hodgins 19, Charlie Taylor 17, Jack Knox 16. The standings are Elmside 17 points, Pontiac Electric 12, Canadian Tire 12, Finnegan’s 11.

Head girl and Head Boy: Head Girl is Peggy McDowell and Head Boy is Steven Jodoin, at the Pontiac Protestant High School for the year 1975-1976.
