Local News: Mr. Andy Martin, agent for Booth and Gordon, left here on Monday with a gang of thirty men, belonging to Clarendon, Thorne and Aldfield. The men go to Warren on the C.P.R. where the company’s operations will be carried on this winter.
The Grand Calumet Mining Company has a gang of men engaged working a new vein 80 feet long and of varying width on the Calumet Island. A large quantity of ore is now ready for shipment and will be taken out to the P.P.J. Railway in a few days.
The American yacht, Genesse defeated the Canadian yacht, Beaver in three straights at Toronto Bay last week and thus captured the Canada cup which had been held by the Canadian yachtsmen for the past three years.

An epidemic of typhoid fever, due to impure well water has broken out in Brantford, Ont.
Joseph Turcotte, son of Xavier Turcotte of Petawawa township, was trolling in the Petawawa River in front of his own door. When near the mouth of the Black Bay Creek he caught a monster fish on his troll.
The troll was small, the line light and the little bark canoe in which the boy sat was very tottlish; but the boy was active and understood how to manage the monster and soon had him an easy victim by playing out slack and drawing in when he got a chance and help came just about the time the big fish was exhausted. The fish (a maskilonge) weighted twenty-nine and one half pounds.
