The Way We Were:

Clinic attracts nearly 170 donors: When Marcienne Asselin gave a pint of blood at the Campbell’s Bay R.A. Hall last week, it was her first donation in about 15 years.

Watching her husband die of cancer last March spurred the Calumet Island woman to give.

“When you really need something, be it treatment or blood, this is such a simple thing to do,” Asselin says.

Nearly 170 other people did what they could by rolling up their sleeves and baring their veins at the Héma Quebec portable blood donor clinic, the second clinic in Pontiac within the past year.

Underdogs shine in three-pitch playoff: The Shawville three-pitch ball playoffs got underway Monday night with the underdogs getting a big bite on the top teams in all three games.

Damage Inc., finishing first overall with 22 points, was drowned in runs against the last place Brew Crew.
The Crew’s Paul Lang and Shawn Kluke hit homers for a 16-6 win over Damage. Jason Argue had a lone home run for Damage in a lost cause.

Atkinson’s Bar squeaked by Hursty’s 1-12 in extra innings. Todd Hearty banged away at three homers for Hursty’s, while Darren Barr smacked two over the fence for Atkinson’s.

In the last game of the night, the Gung Ho’s won 5-1 over Ian Peck Trucking.
