The Way We Were:

Shawville Lionettes host 14th annual District Rally: The 14th Annual District A-4 Lionettes Rally was held on Sunday in the Shawville Community Hall which was decorated in purple and gold. One hundred and fifteen Lionettes arrived around 11 a.m. in buses and cars from the clubs at Arnprior, Bryson, Perth, Pontiac, Campbell’s Bay, Renfrew and Smith Falls, making this the largest rally on record for the Lionettes. Ten more ladies from Quyon joined the Lionettes for dinner at 6 pm.

A buffet lunch was served at noon. At 12:45 pm, the Shawville President Gwen Hayes opened the program and Mayor Orla Young brought the civic welcome.

Tickets were sold throughout the day on three prizes. The first prize was a wall hanging made and donated by Mrs. Tom Moorhead of Bryson and won by Marguerite Carmichael; second prize was a pen and ink drawing of Currymills barn by Mrs. Loreen McLean and won by Gladys Black; and the third prize was a wood cut print of a swamp scene also donated from the collection of Loreen McLean of Shawville.

Ponti-Action making plans throughout Pontiac county: The executive members of Ponti-Action met last week at Campbell’s Bay to discuss plans of the various branches throughout the county.

At Fort Coulonge, there is alot of action with plans going forward for a large conference on women’s affairs to take place late in September.

The Quyon section is organizing a day during which the problems of aging will be studied with specialists in the various related fields as resource people.

In each case the ladies from across the county will be invited to take part in each conference and meeting.
Word was received of the receipt of a grant to cover this year’s expenses from the Department of the Secretary of State.
