Local News: At the regular monthly Lions meeting in the Pontiac House, interest ran high as discussion turned to aid for polio victims.
It was pointed out by the president that the club had already fitted one victim in the Quyon area with necessary braces and the members were informed that a specialist in Ottawa had been contacted and that he strongly recommended sending one of the Shawville victims to Toronto for hospitalization. A unanimous vote of the members indicated their strong desire to do this worthwhile work.
Charging shameful neglect of roads around Bryson, council there voiced the unanimous opinion that strong representations should be made to Ray Johnston, MLA for Pontiac to get action at Quebec. It was contended that the provincial government was drawing substantial revenue from merchants and businessmen from New Calumet Mines and Cheneaux Hydro development and council felt there was no justification for allowing roads to deteriorate to their present state.
A bylaw was introduced to form the Bryson Volunteer Fire Brigade and authorization given to obtain equipment for the firefighters.
The Pontiac Lions Club held a dance in the town hall. A very large crowd from the surrounding district attended. Music was supplied by the Pontiac Dance Band.
