Open House at McDowell Elementary School: On Monday evening, Open House was held at Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School. Following their visits to the classrooms, parents had been invited to attend a meeting in the auditorium concerning the building of an “Adventure Playground” at the school.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. W. Tipping. The members of the School Committee were introduced by Mrs. Gwen Wentworth, chairman, and she outlined their activities during this year.

Those in charge of the meeting were pleased with the large attendance.

Shawville students visit RCMP barracks: On March 21, the Level V classes of the Dr. S.E. McDowell School went to Ottawa accompanied by their teachers, Mrs. Elaine Richardson, Mrs. Elizabeth Young and Mrs. Norma Stewart.

The children sold candles before Christmas to finance their trip.

While there, they visited the RCMP barracks guided by Constable Brian Sparrow. They were greatly impressed by the Queen’s horse, “Centennial” and “Harp”, Brian’s horse which he rides in the “Musical Ride”.

After a short visit to the Museum of Science and Technology, they went to the Ice Capades.
