Local news: Old King Winter “lingering in the lap of Spring” may be a smooth, poetic way of expressing the existing weather conditions, but it does look as if the old chap was trying to exercise more than the usual squatter’s rights this season. Still a couple of feet of snow in most places, and fairly good sleighing is an unusual thing hereabouts on the 13th of April.
One who sets out poison within the limits of a town or village corporation, is guilty of an offence against the law, and most of those who are guilty of such an offence are not doing it in ignorance of that fact; but under cover of darkness in the dead of night, they know they can get away with it, so far as the risk of human detection is concerned, and the victims of their deviltry have no recourse.
Shawville council meeting: Mr. John Horner, of McKee, being present stated that the Department of Public Instruction, Quebec, had advised building a two-room wing to the Shawville High School, and in their report on the matter said that at the north end would be the best place to build, providing suitable arrangements could be made for part of the street, as it would be a better policy to add to the play grounds rather than to make them smaller. Motion — Crs. Argue and Gibson — That Mayor Elliott, Crs. Howard and Sheppard be appointed a committee to inquire into the matter together with Mr. Tracey, the Chairman of the School Board. — Carried
