The Way We Were:

Dr. Keon’s brother appointed head of surgery at University of Ottawa: Last month Dr. Wilbert Keon was appointed Chairman, Department of Surgery, University of Ottawa, succeeding Dr. J. Burke Ewing, the only other person to hold the Chair of Surgery since the Medical Faculty was started at the end of the second War.

Shawville boy wins Rotary public speaking competition: Clay Horner, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Horner, Shawville, was a winner in last year’s Effective Speaking contest sponsored by the Lions Clubs, and this year has entered the Rotary Public Speaking competitions. Last week at Hawksbury, Clay won out and will proceed to the Quebec Rotary Club competition at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, May 11th. Clay was the choice of the Shawville Rotary Club to represent this area, on the recommendation of the Head of his English Department at Pontiac Protestant High School, Mrs. Margaret Campbell.

Curling club notes: The final bonspiel of the 1975-76 curling season concluded on Saturday, April 10th with the round robin playoff to declare winner commenced on Saturday afternoon and finished in the early evening after a very delicious Pot Luck supper was served by the ladies.

The winners were Bucky Harris’ rink of Barb Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Chevalier. The runner-up were old tyme curlers Cecil Orr, Joan Orr, June Orr and Jerry Chevalier (replacing Dr. Potvin).

This was followed by the awarding of trophies and prizes to winning team for the past season. The evening was concluded with a dance, the music was provided by the entertainment committee of Marion LaFrance and Marilyn Wallace.
