The Way We Were:

Local News: Last week, excellent Holy Week services were held in the United Church hall in charge of Rev. A.F. Fokes and meeting every evening except Saturday. Several nights, very interesting religious films were shown. Each evening there were special solos given, the singers being Miss Kay Woodley, Mrs. Evelyn Little, Mrs. Cliva Smart, Mrs. Alex H. Kilgour and Mr. Glenn Hodgins. Easter Sunday brought large crowds that filled the auditorium.

A well-attended meeting was held in Quyon last Wednesday night when the decision was unanimously made to proceed with plans for the erection of a community centre to serve that progressive area. So great was the enthusiasm displayed that over $2,000 was pledged during the meeting.

A shock came to the Portage du Fort community when it was learned that Ronald Ernest Thacker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Thacker, had passed away at the Pontiac Community Hospital after an illness of ten days, at the age of 16 years. The young man had undergone an operation from which he failed to rally.

Shawville Bowling League finished a successful season last week with the playing of the finals and the crowning of a Queen when Miss Dorothy Stanzel and her team took a 395 pin margin over Ed Vaughan’s squad.
