Local groups announce summer recreational programs

The Maison des Jeunes and Shawville RA provided The Equity with a rough outline of the recreational programs on offer this summer. While abiding with public health restrictions will force sports leagues to be cancelled for now, both organizations still plan to hold youth day camps, among other opportunities.

The Shawville RA is also planning on offering a handful of recreational opportunities throughout the summer.

According to RA President Kathy Murray, the RA will be holding its Summer Day Camp for children aged 5-12, “with limited enrollment and keeping groups in bubbles to respect COVID protocols.”

In addition, Murray said that the organization is hoping to run the minor softball program, which is for youth aged 4-17, should public health restrictions permit it. The season would typically start in late May or early June, but the RA is open to having a later start date in an effort to save the season.

While the summer soccer program is not being run this year, Murray said that there is a possibility that they will offer a shortened fall program should health restrictions allow it.
