The organizers of the Shawville Fair, the Pontiac Agricultural Society board, are looking to engage the community over the coming year.
Despite the fair being cancelled for the first time in more than 150 years in 2020 due to COVID-19, President Vaughan Bastien said that . . .
the group was eager to put some events together. With public health measures changing week to week, how this year’s fair will play out is still unknown, but the board is looking to get things done in spite of it all.
“We don’t want to sit idle this year, we have the grounds and we want to do things, according to how Legualt will let us open up,” he said. “With the new board in place, they’re really eager and anxious to get things going.”
The first event in the calendar is a St. Paddy’s day decorating contest. Residents are asked to decorate the exterior of their home or business and send in the photos to socialmedia.shawvillefair@gmail.com.
The deadline for submissions is noon on March 17, with the judging to take place in the days following. Prizes will be Shawville Fair apparel, and will be announced on social media.
Bastien said that he and his fellow board members have plenty of ideas for more events throughout the year, but will have to wait on public health guidelines before announcing anything concrete.
